Privacy notice

This site collects the bare minimum needed to compute a chart, generate a PDF and email it to you. We do not run a CRM, sell anything to third parties, or build behavioural profiles. The notice below explains what we collect and why, in plain terms. Where relevant we cite the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, EU/UK).

1. Data controller

2. What we collect, why, and on what legal basis

Birth data (name, date, time, place)

Used solely to compute your chart and to render it on the cover of the resulting PDF.
Legal basis: performance of the contract you entered into when ordering (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)), or, for the free chart on the homepage, your request to compute it (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b) for pre-contractual steps).
Retention: deleted from our backend within minutes of the PDF being emailed. We don't keep birth data beyond delivery.

Email address

Used to deliver the PDF and any service email about your specific order (e.g. "your file didn't generate, here it is manually"). If you opted into occasional notes about new or related readings (the line at the bottom of the order form), the same address is also used for those.
Legal basis: contract performance for the delivery email (Art. 6(1)(b)); legitimate interest under the soft opt-in for marketing about similar products to existing customers, with one-click unsubscribe in every message (PECR Reg. 22(3) in the UK; Art. 13(2) of the ePrivacy Directive in the EU; CASL "existing business relationship" in Canada).
Retention: kept for the lifetime of the address being subscribed. Unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or write to us.

Order metadata (order id, amount, country, VAT info)

Held by Lemon Squeezy as the merchant of record. We see only what they expose to us (order id, email, amount). They keep what tax authorities require them to keep, typically five to ten years.

Site analytics

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless, doesn't fingerprint your browser, and aggregates page-level metrics only. No cookies are set, no banner is required, and we cannot identify you from analytics data.
Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used (Art. 6(1)(f)).

3. Who processes the data

We rely on these third-party processors:

  • Lemon Squeezy (USA), payment processing, invoicing, VAT collection as merchant of record.
  • Resend (USA), transactional email delivery.
  • Anthropic (USA), the language model that writes the report. Birth data is sent to the model only as needed to generate your reading.
  • Cloudflare (USA, with EU edges), site hosting and cookieless analytics.
  • Open-Meteo (Germany), free geocoding API used to resolve your birth city to coordinates and timezone in your browser. Only the city name you type is sent.

Where data flows to the United States it does so under the relevant transfer mechanism (currently the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, plus standard contractual clauses where needed).

4. Cookies

The site itself sets one piece of localStorage, moy.mood, to remember your light/dark preference. During an order it briefly stores moy.pending-order (your birth data) so the success page can finish queuing the report; this is deleted as soon as the report is queued. Both are first-party, necessary for the function you asked for, and exempt from the cookie consent regime under PECR / ePrivacy. No tracking cookies are set, by us or by any third party.

5. Your rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU, UK, EEA, or any equivalent regime, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you (typically just your email).
  • Correct it.
  • Have it deleted (right to erasure).
  • Object to its processing for marketing.
  • Receive it in a portable format.
  • Lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority (e.g. CNIL in France, ICO in the UK, the Datatilsynet in Denmark, etc.).

Most of these are one email away: write to hello@themechanicsofyou.com. We respond within 30 days as required by Art. 12.

6. Children

The service is not directed at minors. If you believe a minor has placed an order, write to hello@themechanicsofyou.com and we will erase the data and refund the order.

7. Changes

If we change how data is handled, this page is updated and the effective date above revised. Material changes that affect previously collected data are notified by email.
